Roasting Cauliflower: What You Need
Cauliflower
First, you need to grab one medium fresh cauliflower from the market. When choosing, look for heads that are firm, compact, and have tightly packed florets. The color should be bright, creamy white with no brown or yellow spots.
Avoid any that appear wet or have a strong odor. Remember, fresh cauliflower will be more flavorful and roast better.
Olive Oil
It allows the florets crisp up and attain a golden-brown coloration. Its rich and fruity taste enhances the nutty taste of the cauliflower. Olive oil additionally helps distribute seasonings evenly and prevent the florets from drying out. Two tablespoons should be enough.
If you don’t have one, you could use different oils like avocado oil, grapeseed oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil.
Salt
This is one of the crucial ingredients that is small in quantity but can turn any dull dish into a tasteful one. Here, you will need half teaspoon of salt, but you can adjust it to your taste. If not added or not added sufficiently, the dish can taste flat or bland.
Black Pepper
Freshly ground black pepper is the optimal choice. It adds a diffused warmness and depth to the dish. It works alongside olive oil and salt to create a balanced seasoning that brings out the best in the roasted florets. You can alter the amount to your liking.
For a milder choice, substitute with white pepper.
Garlic Powder
Just half teaspoon garlic powder and it will provide a savory, slightly sweet taste to your dish. It lightly coats the florets and offers them a warm garlicky aroma as they roast. Unlike fresh garlic, garlic powder won’t burn easily within the oven.
Fresh Parsley (Optional)
Adding ¼ cup of chopped parsley as a finishing touch brings a burst of color and a fresh, herbaceous flavor. While not strictly critical, it adds a vibrant note and complements the overall presentation. Also, you can add other herbs such as thyme.
Parmesan Cheese
Cheese can by no means go wrong! Sprinkle ¼ cup of shredded Parmesan over the cauliflower in the last 5 mins of cooking. We recommend grating the cheese yourself in preference to using pre-shredded cheese.
Freshly grated cheese has a smoother texture and melts more frivolously.
